Masters' II Directing and Contemporary Performance Final Exams and Best of Fest 2014 (National Arts festival) takes a final bow at the Rhodes Box Theatre this week.

Liezl De Kock's dark comedy, 'Piet se Optelgoed' is showing tonight (Wednesday) and also on Friday. De Kock takes a dark but humorous look at society, which is centred around the trauma of rape. 'Piet se Optelgoed' premiers at the Amsterdam Fringe Festival in 2015 and has also received a Silver Standard Bank Ovation Award in the Physical Theatre genre of this year’s National Arts Festival.

The Award for Best Student Theatre Production was presented to Rhodes University for 'Solo'. Director Hannah Lax's Solo, starring Fleur du Cap-winner Liezl De Kock, is on stage on Thursday and Saturday.

Solo follows a mother’s journey to save her drowning daughter. Lax said in an interview with CueTV that she hopes that the work she is doing is providing a new, different or surprising perspective. Although most of the dialogue is in Afrikaans, this does not leave audiences lost.

Cue Online reported: “Solo is seamlessly put together and leaves its audience sobbing. Lax masterfully fills the theatre with this surreal and desolate piece.”

With a full house on opening night and a sobbing audience leaving the theatre, do not miss out on Solo’s riveting performance.

* Piet se Optelgoed is showing on Wednesday 23 and Friday 25 at 19h30
* Solo is showing on Thursday 24 and Saturday 26 July at the Rhodes Box Theatre at 19h30.
