Two people were killed when a vehicle carrying four people suffered a burst tyre and overturned on the N2 near Seven Fountains on the weekend.

The fatal accident happened on the N2 on Saturday morning 10 May at about 6.30am.

Grahamstown police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said it is alleged that a sedan with four occupants was travelling from Cape Town to King William's Town.

The passengers were two adult women, one of whom was pregnant, a 3-year-old toddler and an adult man, according to police. Govender said the vehicle is believed to have had a tyre burst, before overturning approximately two kilometres from the Seven Fountains turn off on the N2.

A 32-year-old woman and the toddler were killed in the crash. "The other two were taken to hospital," Govender said. She said the condition of the injured people was not known. A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
