The Makana Natural Bodybuilders and Fitness Club will be hosting a Bodybuilding Champs competition at Prime Nightclub this Sunday 27 April.

The Makana Natural Bodybuilders and Fitness Club will be hosting a Bodybuilding Champs competition at Prime Nightclub this Sunday 27 April.

New competitors are encouraged to enter this year’s competition at a fee of R50.

Registration is at 11.30am on Sunday at Prime and competitors will need to bring their music tracks of choice on a flash drive or CD.

Competitors will be required to do the compulsory poses and thereafter their own routine.

Women who are toned and not necessarily heavily built are encouraged to participate in this competition as the titles Miss Bikini and Mr and Mrs Physique are up for grabs.

The event will be judged by professional competitors Colin Simmons and Godfrey Simmons.

Colin is the national secretary and Godfrey is the national president of the Eastern Province Natural Bodybuilding Association which promotes non-racial and drug-free body-building.

The Makana Natural Bodybuilders and Fitness Club, situated at an abandoned ambulance dispatch on the corner of Fitzroy and Froude Street opened just over a year ago.

Colonel Lieutenant Johan Botha, the warden of Cullen Bowles residence, is the chairman and Constable Lesley Sauls is the vice chairman.

Botha and Sauls not only guide their clients towards achieving their desired physical build, but also discuss correct dieting strategies and discourage the use of steroids.

“I have been training for the past three years and I have found that diet has the greatest impact,” Sauls said.

Both Botha and Sauls have competed in various competitions over the years.

Last August, they and a group of other Grahamstown policemen competed at the South African Police Champs in East London.

Sauls placed second in the Novice category for men weighing over 65kg and Botha placed third in the Masters category for men weighing over 90kg.

After this competition, Botha and Sauls aim to promote themselves in Port Alfred.

“It will be a kind of workshop,” Sauls said, “We will go to the gyms there, make proposals and find people who are interested to compete.”

The event will run from 2-8pm and entrance fee is R20.
