In their opening home match against Paarl Boys’ High, the St Andrew’s College 1st hockey side got off to a perfect start by scoring in the first minute, through an emphatic strike by Steven Briscoe.
The team continued to attack and apply pressure to the Paarl defence, but could not add to their lead, although Rex Blaine hit the cross-bar, Roddy Hutchings’ deflection went wide, and Nick Embling’s drag flick also went wide.
Early in the second half the hosts were soon back on the attack. Veli Motsilili and Vuyo Ketwa went close and it was Blaine, who found an unmarked Briscoe, who scored as they went on to win the game 2-1.
