This was confirmed by acting municipal manager Mandisi Planga in an interview with Grocott's Mail on the afternoon of Monday 24 March.
'Workers are going back to work tomorrow morning. We are going to meet with them at 3pm today and we will sign an agreement with them on issues that have been of concern to them," said Planga.
The workers staged a sit-in over concerns about the precarious state of the municipality's finances.
Without divulging the details of the agreement, he said the main issue was the uncertainty about the state of finances in the municipality.
"They want to be told timeously about the financial status of the municipality… also that the service providers of benefits like your pension fund are paid immediately. We have agreed (as the employer) to that," Planga said.
Workers also asked to be kept updated timeously about municipal finances through the local labour forum.
"They want these issues to be communicated – especially the issue of the organogram [positions to be filled]; the second phase must be implemented only when the municipality is financially healthy," he said.
Samwu secretary Lindelwa Faltein this morning said the meeting with City Hall leadership last Wednesday had gone well.
"The meeting went well, but today we are still here at the city hall meeting with all the workers," she said.
