The Grey High School/ Kingswood College match last weekend went down to the final delivery of the day.

In a match that swung first one way, then the other, throughout the day, Grey fought back from what looked like certain defeat to claim a nail-biting tie off the last ball.

Grey won the toss and predictably put Kingswood in to bat.

The Kingswood openers batted well. After Drew Matthews was dismissed early, Brad Haller settled the ship as usual, but was needlessly run out looking for a second run off a no-ball.

Daine Kruger joined Michael Hansel and together the two batted magnificently in a partnership of 117. Kruger batted through the innings for a flawless 54 not out, while Hansel was dismissed for 120 off 113 balls. Kingswood ended on 253 for 8 after their allotted 50 overs.

Haller was devastating with the new ball for Kingswood, taking two wickets in his first over, then picking up the Grey captain Lloyd Brown in the sixth over.

Grey fought back with a solid partnership of 87, but continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.

The pressure started to mount on Kingswood, leaving Grey with an outside chance of a win. With Grey at 206 for 8 Kingswood looked set for victory.

Grey's David Dutton then played the innings of his life, scoring a blitz 34 off 17 balls to get Grey on the brink of victory and leaving the Kingswood side panicking. With two overs to go, Kingswood needed two wickets, while Grey needed 17 runs.

Nine off the penultimate over left Grey requiring eight off the last over.

The last over saw the ninth Grey wicket fall, but they still managed seven runs, ending the game on a tie. Grey finished on 253 for 9. Brad Haller finished on 3 for 39 and Ani Mteto 2 for 46.
