Twins Lauren and Jacqui James of Victoria Girls’ High School have been selected for the South African team going to the Junior International Science Olympiad (Jiso) in Pune, India, this December.

They're two of six pupils chosen based on their performances in the 2013 Eskom Expo for Young Scientists.

This year the event was listed as an international expo as projects from the SADC regions were given an opportunity to enter.
Lauren was awarded a bronze medal.

The James sisters have been in the top five projects of the Grahamstown Regional Science Expo twice, first in their Grade 7 and again in their Grade 9 year.

On both occasions they were awarded gold medals and travelled to Johannesburg to participate in the national science expo.

Lauren and Jacqui are currently number one and two in their Grade 9 class of 80 pupils.

In addition to being extremely strong academics they're also talented musicians who play the flute in the school orchestra and this year Jacqui was awarded a “Best in Show” ribbon at the Bathurst Show for her art.

Their trip to India has no form of sponsorship from government or corporations. The twins plan to sell home-baked goods at school during break-time to raise funds.
