Last Friday night saw the opening of an art exhibition showcasing work by Artgroup 5, a collective comprising eight prominent Grahamstown artists.

A small gathering filled the Eastern Star Gallery on Anglo-African Street where National English Literary Museum (Nelm) Director Beverley Thomas officially opened the exhibition.

Art aficionados, friends and family appreciated beautiful landscapes, delicate ceramics and mixed media works by the likes of David Bunyan, Hilde Kretzmann, Jane James, Gill Maylam, Julia Skeen and Anne Collins.

All the artworks in the exhibition complement each other effortlessly, tied together in their organic, earthy style.

Eastern Cape landscapes receive a reverent treatment in this exhibition, while Bunyan's outlandish mixed-media artworks evoke weird and wonderful dreamworlds.

The exhibition is open from 10am to 4pm until Thursday 24 October.
