Graves of the descendants of King Lobengula are one of the unexpected points of interest on a tour of Fingo Village.

The last king of the Matebele reigned in what is now Zimbabwe, but his children came to Grahamstown and were buried in a hidden corner of the courtyard of Luvuyo Hall.

The three graves are part of a fascinating tour of the lesser known historical places conducted by the Director of the Lobengula Foundation, Sizwe Mda.

The tourism route also takes visitors through a cemetery where township residents who died in the Second World war were buried and past the Egazini precinct where the Battle of Grahamstown was fought in 1819.

The launch of the tourist route, which will operate from 9am to 4pm throughout the National Arts Festival, took place at Luvuyo Hall on Monday 1 July.
