Two well-known Grahamstown choirs are integral to a piece by Festival performance artist Anthea Moys this weekend.

Moys will take on the Victoria Girls' High School Choir and the Pro Carmine Chamber Choir in her performance titled Anthea Moys vs VG Choir and Pro Carmine Choir.

Under the leadership of choir master Sibusiso Mkhize, the Victoria Girls' High School Choir has had great success both locally and abroad.

They have toured internationally, and released two CDs. Pro Carmine is an a capella choir started in 1979, and has been led since its inception by Peter Breetzke.

The choir sings a mixture of classical and popular music and frequently stages concerts around Grahamstown.

The performance is at 3.30pm on Sunday at Thomas Pringle Hall.

On Saturday night, Rhodes DanceSport from Grahamstown and Ta Mtshizz from Fort Beaufort joined forces to take on Moys in a ballroom dancing extravaganza.

Rhodes DanceSport was started by Candice Ryan and Chris Rafael, who fell in love with dancing when they were 17 and started the club to provide an alternative to the usual extra-mural activities at Rhodes.

Ta Mtshizz is a youth outreach programme launched by Ngamacirha Mtshizana, and there are currently 44 students enrolled in the programme.

Both groups are coached by Thyla Matyumza.

Anthea Moys took her first ballroom dancing lesson three months ago.
