All roads lead to St Andrew's College and Diocesan School for Girls this weekend as the neighbouring schools host the annual K-Day derby against Kingswood College.

The action started on Wednesday 12 June with boys' hockey matches on the St Andrew's Webster, Rhodes University and Kingswood's City Lords astroturfs, ending with the first team match on Webster.

The action continues today with junior and senior netball matches,as well as junior boys' hockey.

Tomorrow parents and supporters will flock to various venues for the rugby and girls' hockey, before congregating at the St Andrew's Lower Field in the afternoon for the much-anticipated first-team rugby clash between Kingswood and St Andrew's.

While staff at the schools play down the significance of the game, claiming it's just a "normal fixture", pupils still carry plenty of pressure from coaches and parents.

The latter fly in from across the country for K-Day – and what player would not want to be on the winning side, impressing parents, girlfriends, fellow pupils and their teachers.

The weekend is a good test for those seeking a professional sport career after school. They get a taste of the pressure on pro players to win.

K-Day may not get the coverage of a Super series match, but thousands of cheering supporters help create an authentic big-match atmosphere.

K-Day has become a huge sporting weekend and already dozens of businesses have indicated that they hope to make the most of it, placing their advertising boards across town.

Moving back to the main rugby match, many rugby supporters say this should be an easy win for St Andrew's. But with many a local derby game, some teams handle the pressure better than others.

Tomorrow's match may not come down to who plays the better rugby, but which side makes fewer mistakes in crucial moments.

Kingswood have enjoyed the coaching services of former All Black rugby star John Mitchell over the past few months, while St Andrew’s College first rugby side worked with Gary Gold, former Springbok forwards coach recently.

St Andrew's have not won a match in their last three encounters and they will be hoping to change that tomorrow, while Kingswood have been on the winning side for their last two encounters.
