Makana Tourism launched their new logo at a low-key event at Evelyn House on Thursday 23 May. Director of Makana Tourism Susan Waugh described the launch as a “brand refreshment” to give Makana Tourism a new identity and unique personality.

The new logo is more accessible and relevant to the Makana district and complements the Municipality’s brand.

“The new logo gives a more coordinated look and feel,” Waugh said.

Inspiration for the new emblem was drawn from questionnaires completed by various hospitality entities in the area, and incorporates colours and shapes from the previous Makana Tourism logo as well as the new Makana Municipality design.

The new look includes the maroon, red and gold colours of the municipality’s new logo with the addition of green and orange.

The design captures elements of the shield shape of the municipality’s current logo, with a more triangular shape symbolising both an aloe leaf and rhino horn – indicative features of the Makana district.

The dots are representative of the local culture, with the “Tourism Welcome Man”, adapted from the South African Tourism brand, included at the bottom.

Elements synonymous with the Makana region have been included to illustrate the wildlife, heritage and education brands of the region.

Silhouettes of theatrical masks, the Cathedral, rhino horns as well as a graduation cap showcase the diversity of the Makana area.

In line with SA Tourism’s tagline “Inspiring new ways”, Makana Tourism have also refreshed their slogan to now read “Leave Inspired”.

Waugh describes the innovative design as a “fun logo” which brings about a fresh new look to Makana Tourism.
