The premier division of the Makana Local Football (LFA) Association is just about wrapped up, with only two matches left.

Last weekend the final round matches took place. These matches wrapped up the round robin matches and last week the first of the play-offs went ahead at Fiddler's Green.

The season began with a total of 16 teams vying for top honours in the premier league.

The teams were split into two streams, each made up of eight teams.

The top teams in each stream faced off during the week, with New Town City and Makana Pillars winning their streams.

The two were scheduled to battle it out at Fiddler's this week, the winner eyeing a spot in the Cacadu play-offs.

These are to be played at a date and venue still to be confirmed. Association secretary Thandazile Madinda said the teams will now focus their attention on the Easter Mayoral Cup.

Scheduled for more than a month after Easter, Madinda said the tournament had first been postponed after being rained out over the Easter weekend.

The committee then decided to hold the tournament once the current premier league fixtures had been completed, because the MLFA must meet the deadlines of the South African Football Association.

Madinda said the Easter Mayoral Cup would be next weekend, 11 and 12 May.

A total of 28 teams from across the Makana municipal area will take part, including from Alicedale/Riebeeck East, Sevenfountains/Southwell and Fort Brown.

Speaking of the future LFA league, Madinda said they were currently planning ways on how to accommodate these areas in the premier league.

Madinda said they would hold play-offs between the top teams to determine the top two teams out of the three areas.

These top two teams will then stand to make it into the Makana LFA premier league.
