A student from Rhodes University has been chosen as one of only two African representatives to attend a prestigious sports journalism seminar in Russia during the July vacation.

An excited Fabio De Dominicis, a fourth-year Journalism and Media Studies student, will join a student from Senegal at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Young Sports Journalist seminar in Kazan, Russia.

Student journalists from all over the world will come together to cover the 27th World University Games, which will be held in the same city.

The programme has been running for two years. De Dominicis said he has always had a keen interest in sport and was grateful for this opportunity.

“Sports journalism has always been my passion and this experience is going to be invaluable. I am really excited and grateful to be a part of it,” he said.

De Dominicis also works as a weights instructor at the Rhodes Health Suite. The seminar and student games will take place from 7 to 17 July.

Organisers chose one male and one female student journalist from each continent to attend the seminar and cover the games.
