Pierre Kapp is the superintendent of the Makana traffic department, but he is also a recording artist who has recently released his third studio album, entitled Old Rugged Cross.

Kapp’s first gospel album was produced in his home studio in less than six weeks.

The album includes Easter favourites like Amazing Grace, Nearer my God To Thee and When a child is Born. The tracks are instrumental renditions: Kapp says he doesn’t regard himself as a singer.

“This album is perfect for people that just want music that you can close your eyes to and find some spiritual peace.” Kapp comes from a very religious background.

“I have been very involved in gospel music from a very young age,” he says.

He decided to move away from the traditional sakkie-sakkie of his first two albums, because his listeners demanded more mellow music.

He felt it was necessary that he go back to his gospel roots.

“There is a place for all of it,” he says, “whether it’s langarm or sakkie-sakkie – but nothing replaces gospel.”

Kapp’s tracks have graced the airways of Radio Sonder Grense (RSG) and he has performed at numerous venues all over the Eastern Cape.

This album is good for easy listening, the tracks flowing together in a smooth, harmonious groove.

It displays Kapp’s skill with the guitar, especially considering that he is not musically trained and plays everything by ear.

Kapp’s first two albums, Langarm Dans Treffers and Gunsteling Kitaar Treffers have been distributed by the prestigious EMI recording company.

Kapp is currently still working on his fourth album.

For more information about the album you can call Kapp at 083 708 2949.
