SA men's national hockey coach, Gregg Clark, shared his expertise with the St Andrew’s College Hockey Club at a recent training session.

Clark is the most capped South African hockey player, having played at two Olympic Games.

He has been the National Coach for the past six years, taking the SA Men’s Hockey team to both the Beijing and London Olympics.

A number of coaches from a variety of schools attended the sessions at Webster Astro, where Clark spoke about his coaching philosophy.

He said he felt the most important aspects of hockey for all players were the basic techniques.

In a match situation, the quicker a player can control the ball, the quicker the decision-making process can take place and only then can the player add value to the team.

Clark spent time assisting various training sessions and was quick to identify where players needed assistance, both in terms of basic technique and with more advanced skills.

It was evident that Clark’s vast experience and knowledge of the game came from his passion and love of hockey, as he spent more than six hours assisting players and interacting with the coaches.
