A Rhodes student is currently being treated for meningitis, according to a release by the university over the weekend.

"Arrangements are already in place to provide prophylactic medication to all the students in her residence and Hall who may have had close contact with her," said Dean of Students Viv de Klerk in the statement.

Students, staff and Grahamstown residents are urged to contact a doctor should they contract any of the symptoms of meningitis. These include a severe headache, fever, neck stiffness, photophobia, vomiting and a dark purple non-blanching rash.

On Monday, another statement was released saying that no further cases have been reported, and that the student was doing well. Students sharing the following classes with her are warned to keep an eye out for symptoms: Earth Science 101, Chemistry 101, Statistics 101, Zoology 101 and Cell Biology.
