As the sun set on Wednesday evening, a small group gathered at West Hill for an evening of good cheese and wine.
Organised by Grahamstown businesswoman Denese Palm, in association with her events company Fragile Earth Grahamstown, the objective was to enjoy the finer things in life through sharing wine in the company of family and friends.
The evening was hosted by Sally Price-Smith who kindly offered up her beautiful home in Durban Street.
“There is a lack of quality things to do in Grahamstown and the town deserves something like this – to take time to focus on what we are drinking, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic,” said Palm.
Liquid Gold is one of the branches of Palm’s company and it organises tastings of wine and whisky, as well as non-alcoholic beverages such as rooibos and prickly pear juice.
“It’s important to look at all the drinks we experience through life, so that we can be more conscious of quality,” says Palm.
Rustenberg Wine Estates, in Stellenbosch, sponsored the wine, while Murray Barlow, son of the owner of Rustenberg Stellenbosch, presented the wines with a brief on the history of the estates and the wine themselves.
“This is a lovely venue and there is a great atmosphere. There is definitely a need for more of this in Grahamstown”, said Werner and Ilze Pienaar, guests at the event.
