A group of Grahamstown's men and women in blue are the 2012 Pick n Pay / Albany Night Bowls tournament champions after the finals on Thursday.

Coenie Stander, Jackie de Klerk, Elsa van Tonder and Tanya van Onselen of team SAPS A were crowned the winners after weeks of competition on the greens. The SAPS side beat their final opponents East Cape Electrical.

Runners-up were Proper Angels, with Davies Plumbers taking third spot. A total of 12 teams took part in the final games, all bringing with them their points accumulated over the past few weeks. The tournament began at the end of October with 22 teams taking part in the social event which sees businesses, organisations and clubs putting together teams of four players.

“We really appreciate your continued attendance, as this year the weather did not play with,” said Gwen Bartlett of the Albany Bowling Club committee. Apart from the tournament starting a few weeks later than scheduled due to bad weather the finals, first scheduled for 30 November, were also postponed until last Thursday (6 December) due to rain.
