Bold neon and daring geometric designs met traditional African fashion at an event held to showcase local talent at City Hall on Saturday night.

Organiser Zukile Velezantsi of new events company Pour La Vie said the show was held to celebrate the innovation, diversity and beauty of local fashion designers, models and entertainers.

“We want to motivate young and upcoming models to pursue their goals,” he explained. Velezantsi wanted the event to connect and inspire Makana's youth from all walks of life.

More than 20 young models showed off clothing from Grahamstown fashion designer Kolly Seti, design duo Seka's Creations and Markham's clothing store.

Seka Gqogqa and Nompelo Njibana operate under the label Seka's Creations to create their unique 'Afrocentric' blend of traditional and Western wear.

The event began about two hours late and didn't have the turnout that organisers were expecting.
