Players from Eastern Cape's senior cricket side, the Chevrolet Warriors, will be in action on Kingswood's City Lords cricket field on Thursday evening. Two mixed teams will take to the field in a Pro20 match at the Kenrich Festival of Cricket, starting at 5.30pm and entrance to the match is free. Each team will be made up of four Warriors players, four school players, and four Rural/Country District squad members. Earlier in the day, the Warriors players, together with the Eastern Province Coaching department, will be conducting coaching clinics for players from previously disadvantaged schools and clubs. These will take place at at the Grahamstown Oval, Kingswood College, St Andrews College and Graeme College, from 2pm to 4.30pm. Warriors batsman and former Graeme College pupil, Jon-Jon Smuts said it is “great to come back to Grahamstown and give back to the community where I grew up”. He said he was looking forward to playing with local school players, as well as helping at the coaching clinics, and hopes the Warriors visit will contribute to the growth and future of the cricket playing youngsters. The Chevrolet Warriors players are: Bevan Bennett, Andrew Birch, Colin Ingram, Arno Jacobs, Davy Jacobs, Jon-Jon Smuts, Athi Dyili, Justin Kreusch, Lyall Meyer, Michael Price, Basheer Walters, Craig Thyssen and Reece Williams.
