Rumour has it that our present Municipal Manager will shortly be making a move to a neighbouring metropolitan municipality, which is where she apparently lives.

If it’s true, it’ll obviously be a step up for her and she will improve on the already more than comfortable salary she presently earns. Someone must therefore believe that she’s done an excellent job for Makana.
By way of comment, I would only ask if she will be leaving Makana a better place than she found it?

The answer is self-evident. One only has to read her latest comments about “maverick managers and lazy officials” (GM 14.10.11) also recalling that it wasn’t long ago that she described her own institution as “sick”.

If indeed our present MM will shortly be taking her leave of us, those responsible must require that her successor actually becomes fully resident in Makana.

The same principle should also apply to all of Makana’s senior officials. Only by living among us can they be truly committed to the good of Makana. Being an itinerant is not good enough.

Yours sincerely
