The Eastern Province Kings’ unbeaten run in the Absa Currie Cup came to an abrupt halt when they went down 49-15 to the Boland Cavaliers in Wellington on Friday. Having been down 13-10 at the break, the Kings let themselves down in the second half by earning three yellow cards.

The ill-disciplined Kings were their own worst enemies and hosts Boland took full toll of their numerical advantage on the pitch. Boland wing and former SA Sevens star, Danwell Demas, was the star of the show as he crossed the tryline four times. Scrumhalf Bolla Conradie and fullback Willie Le Roux also managed to grab themselves tries later in the game, whilst Elgar Watts’s boot kept the scoreboard ticking.

The Kings will be very disappointed with themselves and will need to put this match behind them as they move forward into the playoffs in two weeks after this weekend’s bye.

With a game in hand, Boland are expected to secure a top spot on the log and thus a home final.

Regent Boland Cavaliers – Tries: Danwell Demas (4), Bolla Conradie, Willie le Roux; Conversions: Elgar Watts, Le Roux (4); Penalties: Watts (3).

EP Kings – Tries: Jaco Engels, Luke Watson; Conversions: Louis Strydom; Penalty: Strydom.
