The Eastern Province Kings extended their unbeaten run in the Absa Currie Cup First Division by defeating the Boland Cavaliers 23-17 in Port Elizabeth on Friday night.

The Kings were made to sweat in the second half, having taken a 20-11 lead at the break, but they managed to hold on to secure the top spot on the log.

Both teams went into the game with unbeaten records; however, the dominant Kings scrum was one of the determining factors in securing the win.

Loose-forward Jacques Engelbrecht and skipper Luke Watson were all over the Cavaliers, both on attack and defence, with Engelbrecht being awarded Man of the Match.

In the second half, a try from Watts took the score to 23-17, setting up a nail-biting finish.

The Kings managed to hold on to claim the valuable four points and cement their place at the top of the 1st Division log, as they look set on defending their 2010 title.
