The resort chose to honour Nelson Mandela's 93rd birthday by treating the boys and their home parents. There was delicious food, delightful games, and gifts all round and you could read from the boys' eyes that they were really enjoying themselves.
As for their caregivers, they were touched by the recognition for their hard work and dedication in taking care of the children.
"Nelson Mandela loves children,and we decided to bring you here because that's the way he would have wanted it," said Johan Black, the resort's manager.
He thanked Pick n Pay, Go Bounce kids' party planners, Tip Top butchery, Forever PureWater, and the management and staff of Makana resort for making the day possible.
The mayoral couple could not make the event because they had to go to a meeting and Council Speaker Rachel Madinda, and Councillor Vuyani Kolisi, were there to represent them.
Madinda said, "Today is a very big day, and all political parties and their members are celebrating and concentrating on Tata Madiba's birthday."
Kolisi added that Mandela was four-faced, saying he was a "character, prisoner, negotiator and a statesman". "But most important, he prophesied that one day he would be the first black president," Kolisi said. O
ne of the boys, Siyabonga Yini, wished Nelson Mandela a happy birthday. He said he loved him and that he wished that he would not die any time soon.
