Local professional boxer Mziwoxolo Ndwayana will be competing in a professional fight hosted by Nyusa Boxing Promotion in Uitenhage's Babs Mdlakane Hall on Saturday.

Ndwayana, who has had frequent postponements of his previous fights, has been in training for three months and was eventually matched up with Orange Free State opponent, Ramapoudu Makawu.

This six round junior middleweight fight will determine who will be granted the opportunity to compete for the Eastern Cape professional boxing tittle.

Makana Amateur Boxing Organisation (Makabo) president and coach, Bulelani Ndwayana says, "As coaches we have done all that is necessary and we are fighting an unknown opponent from the Free State and from my own experience with them they don't easily back down."

However, Mziwoxolo confirmed with Grocott's Mail that he is fully fit and prepared for the fight even though he does not know his opponent that well. "I have been training for three months and I am fit and ready to face this boxer from Free State and I have nothing to lose," says Mziwoxolo.

Other local boxers that will be taking part at the event will be Mntwekhaya Makhombe, who will be in a middleweight fight with Zamoxolo Lukwe of Port Elizabeth, while Siyabulela Kupiso will fight Michael Jennet of Mossel Bay in a strawweight bout.

The main bout will be between Unathi Jacobs (Uitenhage) and Leon Mriba (PE) who will be fighting for the EC super middleweight title and the main supporting bout will be a fight where EC junior middleweight champion Melikhaya Mdlalo (PE) will be defending his tittle against Gcobani Nyathi (Uitenhage). The boxing action starts at 5pm.
