In support of national Heritage Day, Kingswood Junior held a fun run. The Wimpy Heritage Day Challenge took place on Sunday, with about 350 runners and walkers taking part plus a number of dogs also enjoying the walk.

The Heritage Day Challenge consisted of a 10km and 5km, as well as a 2.5km for pre-primary kids and their parents.

The funds raised from the Heritage Day Challenge will go towards a fundraiser to install proper toilets at Luzuko Pre-school in Fingo Village.

A number of Rhodes University students volunteer at the preschool and are very busy with fundraising efforts.

The toilets currently used at the school consist of three holes cut into a piece of wood in a corrugated iron structure at the bottom of the school’s property.

The school also has no proper sanitation or running water. In Sunday’s 10km race, Simphiwe Tana (of Nedbank) was the overall winner in 34:19 while Terri-Lynn Penney of Run/Walk For Life Athletics Club was the women’s winner with her time of 42:48.
