The Mountain Drive Half-Marathon takes place in Grahamstown on Saturday 14 August. This is an Eastern province league event, which means most of the Port Elizabeth based clubs will be represented at the race.

The 21km, organised by Albany Road Runners, starts at the Albany Sports Club, with walkers taking off at 7am, followed by runners at 8am.

The route is the same as in previous years, from the club through the streets of town, and then a tough hill section of about 8km over Mountain Drive.

It’s then a fast section through the industrial area, past the golf course, down the gravel road near the army base and back to the finish at the Albany Sports Club. Organisers of the run call it a “tough half marathon route and a real challenge”.

The event is being sponsored by Rob Beer for the second year. There will be a number of cash category prizes and lots of spot prizes up for grabs.

There will be also be a carboloading pasta evening the night before the race at the Albany Club starting at 6.30pm.

Entries will be taken at then, as well as on the morning of the race from 6.30am. Entry forms will be available soon from Albany Outdoor and Albany Sports.

Last year’s Mountain Drive Half-Marathon was won by George Ntshiliza from Mr Price in 1:13:22 and the women’s winner was Terri-Lynn Penney of Run/Walk For Life Athletics Club in her time of 1:32:53 For more information about the Mountain Drive race, contact Misty on 084 890 3415 or Andrew on 072 387 8752.
