The Port Alfred River and Ski Boat Club hosted a river fishing competition recently, where the anglers  enjoyed one of the warmest evenings for a while.

“The atmosphere on the river and at the prize-giving was warm and friendly as anglers told their stories about the night’s activities and gave each other tips on where to try next competition,” said organiser Bruce Gie.

Although the evening was warm, Gie said the river water was cold, resulting in the fish not feeding. Carol Mitchley was the first woman to weigh a prize winning fish in the club’s competitions for the year so far.

David Drennan weighed in with the heaviest bag and also took over first position for the year’s standings. Eleven fish were weighed with a total weight of 13.908 kilograms.

Gie said the competition was well supported with anglers coming from Port Elizabeth, East London and Cathcart.

In total 13 anglers participated, with participants, families and friends also attending the prize-giving and breakfast.

Results from the river competition are as follows: Dave Drennan Spotty 2.029kgs, Spotty 1.951kgs, Spotty 1.807kgs with a total weight of 5.787kgs, winning him the heaviest bag.
