As part of SpiritFest this year, Dr Olenka Brutsch will sell tickets to the public to enjoy a local cultural
evening at the Christ Church Hall in Speke Street.
Olenka and her husband Peter have been hosting cultural evenings at their beautiful home in Park Road for years, the proceeds of which go to Christ Church charities such as their food basket which feeds the poor.
They invite various local musicians and artists to perform, making it a varied and enjoyable evening for all. “The Cultural Evening collects money and also allows people to perform as well as for people to meet and make friends” said Brutsch.
But this year Dr Brutsch has decided to go public to raise money for Nomphumelelo pre-school. The event will present a number of performances such as the sensational gospel and a capella singing group, Boys in Motion, which consist of four Grade 11 students from Graeme College.
The Boys in Motion have sung at various events for St Andrews College, the Diocesan School for Girls and Kingswood College.
Other performances include traditional African songs and ngano (stories) from Zimbabwe with mbira and harp by Andrew Tracey and Laina Gumboreshuba and poetry readings by youth from the Upstart club and much more.
Paintings by Dr Pierre Botha will also be on sale as well as sculptures of angels and madonnas made by Dr Brutsch.
The sales of the artworks will also be donated to Nompumelelo, which will go towards feeding the children at the pre-school in Joza.
The Christ Church cultural evening will be held on 28 June from 6 to 7.30pm and tickets costing R40 will be available at the door.
