The Cacadu Boxing Trials took place at the Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday, where four district municipalities took part in a boxing tournament.

Some of the boxers who participated are offenders from Grahamstown Correctional Centre. According to Makana Boxing General Secretary Justice Ndudumo the prisoners are encouraged to be active in sports to build more positive mental attitudes, as most of them are soon to be released.
Grahamstonians were treated to great boxing as this participation sport has been fairly marginilised in Grahamstown.
Ndudumo says that last year they started promoting local boxing throughout the whole community. “We are planning to visit local schools to form up boxing clubs, so that it is a recognisable sport in society.”
All the participants showed great dedication and enthusiasm for the sport in the ring. The following Makana boxers were selected for Cacadu squad: Mzoxolo Ndwayana Welter weight Monde Madyo and Bongani Mabona Junior welter weight Masixole Sidada Lightweight Lwando Khonza Featherweight.
Mxolisi Kralo Bantam weight These six boxers will make the municipality proud in the Cacadu squad that will travel to Mdantsane on 17 June to compete with other Eastern Cape districts for positions in the provincial team.
They will then represent Eastern Province under the South African National Amateur Boxing Organisation (SANABO), where they will be pitched against other provinces in the national trials for the London Olympics in 2012.
