GBS has decided to continue conducting a series of personal financial management workshops as part of its Social Responsibility Programme.

The programme, which has been running for two years now, gives ordinary people the skills they need to manage their finances more effectively.

The course aims to spark meaningful change in the community and has been very well received. Based on this success, GBS have decided to  continue offering this course in 2010.

The course, run by Mfuzo Dyira, an employee at GBS Mutual Bank Grahamstown and the course co-ordinator, facilitates groups of trainees interested in this life skills  programme.

The course modules  include theoretical and practical applications of saving, budgeting, managing and avoiding debt, setting financial goals and banking and ATM practices.

On completing the workshop, participants receive a certificate of competence at an awards ceremony held twice a year.

Certificates are awarded to participants who have complied with the course criteria and have met the  required standards.

To sign up for the course, companies and organisations can send a group of their  employees to enrol in the course.

GBS bears the costs of the course and its materials, while companies are expected to supply a venue and refreshments for their participants.

Companies are invited to make a  donation instead of course fees to a charity of their choice. Individuals who are not affiliated with a company are also free to sign up for the course.

For more information, contact Mfuzo Dyira at the GBS Mutual Bank on 046 622 7109 or m.dyira@gbsbank.co.za.
