School holidays are difficult time periods for blood collection, as many blood donors are away from home. A fair amount of blood is also collected at school sites, which are inaccessible during holiday times.

The Eastern Cape SANBS zone would like to appeal to all blood donors
who are in good health to come forward and give the gift of life. In order to become a blood donor you must: •be between the ages of 16 and 65;
•weigh more than 50kg;
•have a good meal prior to your donation;
•be healthy; and
•lead a safe sexual lifestyle.

For information on your nearest blood donor centre or blood drive in your area, visit www.sanbs.org.za or call the toll free number on 0800 11 90 31.
