Oozing glamour and style, the beauty pageant Mr and Miss EMC 2010 recently took place at BB Zondani Hall in Fingo Village.
Situated in a secluded corner of Milner and Constitution Street, Grahamstown’s EastCape Midlands College (EMC) hosted this highly anticipated contest making its presence known to the township and its students.
Oozing glamour and style, the beauty pageant Mr and Miss EMC 2010 recently took place at BB Zondani Hall in Fingo Village.
Situated in a secluded corner of Milner and Constitution Street, Grahamstown’s EastCape Midlands College (EMC) hosted this highly anticipated contest making its presence known to the township and its students.
College graduates and Department of Education officials Siyabonga Pokile and Noluxoliso Tom were two of the judges that night.
Completing the judging panel was Andiswa Vazi also from the Department of Education and Thandolwethu Bulani of Old Mutual Bank.
Surprisingly the number of contestants was less than expected, as the men were only three and the ladies were just four, totalling the contestants to seven.
According to organisers, due to the short notice of venue changes, several contestants had withdrawn. But this didn’t not stop the fun as contestants came out on stage, parading their casual wear.
The ladies looked stunning in their beach wear, but the entrance of the muscular Lubabalo Kenqu, Luvuyo Nojoko and Monwabisi Ngqoyiya knocked the audience right out of their seats.
After unbuttoning his shirt, he eventually took it off at the request of the mostly female audience, who wanted to catch a glimpse (and a touch) of Nojoko’s hot body.
The college’s artistic students filled the hall with exciting and interactive pantsula dance and hip-hop music in between the contest segments and announcements.
The evening wear was a colourful experience indeed, with all four ladies competing in gowns of different colours and designs.
Zikhona Manganyi came out in style with her maroon mini dress, next to IT student Asanda Akone dressed in blue and Zonke Mdala in her shiny black gown. Outshining the rest of the colours was IT Office Administration student, Asanda Gcaba who impressed with her silky green outfit which brought out the princess in her.
This was followed by the men’s round where IT student Nojoko was dressed to kill,proving that black pants, a white shirt and a tie with a little waistcoat can produce an smart corporate look.
In the last and final round of the contest, the judges each threw the contestants with a few general questionswhich were often tricky for the contestants to answer.
Anda Gcaba was declared the overall winner, followed by Asanda Akone and Zonke Mdala who were declared as both second placed runner up the fourth contestant Zikhona Manganyi was not left out of the fun as she was the third runner up.
Gcaba said “I feel so good and this victory is out of this world, this came out of nowhere. I was confident because I had no competition and I knew I was going to win but I played along with the anticipation.”
Earning him the Mr ECM title, Nojoko took the first place followed by Lubabalo Kenqu as the first runner up and Monwabisi Ngqoyiya as the second runner up.
According to organisers, the event was a success and it brought the spirit of coming together with the community alive, since the college feels it has secluded itself from the rest of the community.
As Gcaba says “your future should be preserved and well prepared for and put your education as the first priority”.
