Joao De Fonseca started his musical career at the age of 11 by staging concerts for his parents in their home.

Now he goes by the name J’Something and has come a long way from the living room stages. He is currently recording an album with Soul Candi in Johannesburg and has just returned from a tour in Portugal.

Joao is no stranger to Grahamstown and the Eastern Cape. He went to school at Graeme College and lived in Port Alfred for most of his life.

When he was 13 years old he was mesmerised by the beauty of music when an acoustic guitar player performed in his mother’s restaurant.

He begged the musician to teach him how to play, but sadly after six months of lessons his mentor passed away.

It was difficult for him to pick up his guitar after losing one of the most influential men in his life, but a church service changed all that when he was 17 and he decided to give music another try.

After school he went to Stellenbosch University and obtained a degree in Marketing/Management sciences. Three years of labouring in front of the books later he is now busy pursuing his true passion. This would not be the first public release of J’Something’s music.

He has recorded two demo cds with Zip Mix, a recording company in Portugal. He also recorded another demo CD with Eppel Sauce in Cape Town.

To crown off the end of 2009 he embarked on the “Digging up the roots tour” in Portugal where he performed with some of the best local artists.

Now it is finally time for J’Something to return to South Africa and give us a taste of his acoustic soul music.
J’ Something describes his work as “music that is from the heart”, with a little bit of jazz and soul thrown into the mix.

He wishes to thank all his fans, especially his friends who have been around since the beginning of his career. His motto in life is “nothing is impossible and a dream is the development stage of
a reality”.

Fans who wish to follow J’Something can search for his page on Facebook and be kept up to date with the developments of the album and his latests songs.
