There will be plenty of schools cricket action at the various schools’ cricket fields across town this weekend as the Grahamstown Schools Cricket Festival kicked off yesterday. This is the 11th cricket festival being hosted in Grahamstown.

There will be plenty of schools cricket action at the various schools’ cricket fields across town this weekend as the Grahamstown Schools Cricket Festival kicked off yesterday. This is the 11th cricket festival being hosted in Grahamstown.

This year’s event is hosted by St Andrew’s College, with Graeme College and Kingswood College forming part of the organising team. The cricket festival continues today and ends with final matches being played tomorrow. This year’s event is sponsored by Pam Golding Properties.

Twelve schools are taking part in the cricket festival. The festival is also the first time many of the schools’ 1st teams have played together as a unit, and will give coaches a chance to play around with their side before they prepare for the school fixtures.

Paul Edey, St Andrew’s College headmaster, said the festival “has become an important opportunity for all our teams to sharpen their skills ahead of the new season and a wonderful meeting place for players, coaches and managers”.
