It’s "make or break" says the local Democratic Alliance (DA) as they are looking forward to beating the African National Congress (ANC) at the next municipal elections in 2011. The DA is aiming to garner enough votes to become the leading party for Makana Municipality.

The DA Makana Branch regards the municipal elections as a critical opportunity to put their local administration back on a sound footing before the "current downward spiral becomes an irreversible tailspin," says DA Administration Clerk, Xolani Madyo. He says the ANC has been running Makana Municipality’s affairs for more than 15 years and that it is now time for change.

"It is only 18 months before we go to the polls to elect a new City Council. To some people 18 months may seem too long, but it is very short. We want to start campaigning now so that we can build a concrete relationship with our new members and together we can choose a candidate that can represent us at the elections in 2011."
He says that the DA is looking for people with integrity and stature in the community to lead the local party branch.

Madyo says it is important to vote against the ANC, because the ruling party will only remember the unfulfilled promises they have made when they lose votes.

"We need to do a campaign awareness and educate people about voting, our people still don’t know that they vote is their secret, nobody knows who you have voted for on the ballot," Madyo concluded.
