Kary Pearson crushed the dreams of thousands of Grahamstown residents when she won the second Pick ‘n Pay Win a Car! competition on Saturday.

The six competition finalists – Pearson, Duncan Greaves, Karin Hackmack, Johnny Chaso, Khensani Madiba  and Joy Miles – each drew a key from a concealed bag but failed to unlock the brand new red Hyundai Getz the first time around.

“It’s been exciting,” said Len van der Merwe, owner of Hyundai Grahamstown. “It couldn’t have worked out better,” he said, laughing at the morning’s events.

“I’m just shattered,” Pearson said, close to tears. “My draw was in March and I’ve been a wreck since then.” Pearson, who works at Sibuya Game Reserve, plans to sell her current “rust bucket” and drive her new Hyundai Getz everywhere. “This is the first time I’ve ever owned a new car,” said an ecstatic Pearson. “I’m going to look after it like a baby.”

With all the paper work complete today, be sure to keep an eye out for Pearson driving around town in her new Hyundai Getz!
