At a meeting of the Economic Development, Tourism and Heritage Committee on Tuesday 12 May Councillor Michael Whisson questioned the viability of the R600 000 loan that has been requested by the municipality for the project.
He said that "it seems reckless to take out a loan" for a project that is "not generating profit".
Masoma responded by saying that "they will be able to repay it when there is production".
To this end the project has secured assistance from the Department of Agriculture, which will send an Agricultural Extension Officer to the meeting on the 22nd to help with the finalisation of plans for the project.
Whisson also questioned the availability of feed for the goats, as lucerne was meant to be grown on "nine or ten" farms, that were to be created for that purpose. However there is no sign of their existence.
He also pointed out that since the goats are supposed to be arriving soon, it is a serious problem that the infrastructure for the production of milk and cheese is not up and running.
Masoma said that all of these questions would be resolved on the 22nd.
