The inaugural Running Wild 8km trail run takes place at the Sidbury Sport Club on Sunday and registration will take place before the start, according to Lesley McNutt, Director of Coaching for Conservation. The 8km trail run starts about 45km from Grahamstown along the N2 towards Port Elizabeth, with athletes going through the Amakhala Reserve and may be lucky enough to see game along the route, including giraffe and zebra, among others. Grahamstown trainer, Mfuzo Dyira of Mfuzo Boxing Camp was among a number of boxers and coaches who left for Germany yesterday (1 June). The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) sent-off the 10 boxers a technical officer and a coach to Germany, as part of an exchange sport programme, from the East London Airport. Andile Nduna, media officer for DSRAC said: “The main purpose for sending off these boxers is to expose them to Sport Development trends and competing at an International level”. And that’s a wrap for Comrades Marathon 2017. Vusumzi Mafu was the first of four Grahamstown, Eastern Cape athletes to finish today’s Comrades. Mafu finished in 7 hours 55 minutes 03 seconds. Thembinkosi Mdyogolo finished his 10th Comrades Marathon, earning his permanent number. He finished in 8:59:33. Justice Yaka finished in 10:46:59 and Seyiso Tilese finished in 11:03:48. Dean Jenkins of St Andrew’s College will captain the Eastern Province Country Districts (EPCD) U18 Craven Week side, while nine of his school mates will join him. They are, Chulu Mngxaso, Callum Dugmore, Ikhetheleng Nkhereanye, Jason Brown, Zadok Makani, Oscar Evans, Murray Koster, Jack Allanson and Byron Sharwood. By STEPHEN PENNEY Nathaniel Nyaluza Secondary School 1st rugby side were crowned overall winners of the rugby section of the Parras Michausdal Secondary School Annual Sport Tournament. The event took place in Cradock over the past weekend. Nine teams competed in the rugby tournament, including two sides for hosts Michausdal. Other teams included Nathaniel Nyaluza and Mary Waters Secondary School from Grahamstown, Adelaide Gym, McCarthy (Uitenhage), Tarkastad High, Templeton High, Middelande SS and Thubalethu secondary school.
