WHILE the Diocesan School for Girls’ (DSG) Aquatics Centre will officially open in late October, an unofficial opening for the pupils took place on 6 August.
THE Stockelsdorf junior soccer team from Germany spent a week in Grahamstown as part of a soccer exchange programme. The 34 member German touring party arrived in Grahamstown on 12 October and spent the week exploring the area and visiting various schools.
Seven men and six women students have been nominated for the Rhodes University Sport Council’s Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year. The Sports Awards dinner takes place on 10 October where all the various sporting codes at Rhodes University will be represented.
"This is the highlight of the year and the decade," said Shelley Frayne, Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) headmistress, at the opening of the school’s Aquatic Centre on Monday. The centre was named after former headmaster Bruce Probyn who unveiled the plaque.
Local learners and teachers were able to learn more about chemistry through a collaboration between the Rhodes Chemistry department and Bristol ChemLabS. The United Kingdom based outfit visited Grahamstown schools to conduct a chemistry outreach programme.
