Grahamstown detectives are investigating a case of robbery after a 53-year-old woman was tricked by three unknown men posing as police officers.
According to a statement by SAPS, the woman was on her way to Standard Bank in High street when she was approached by three unknown males.
They introduced themselves as police officers and showed her what they called 'appointment certificates'.
They then asked her about an alleged theft in which cash had been taken out of a vehicle.
When she replied that she had no knowledge of it, they asked her to accompany them for questioning in their 'offices', which weresituated in Donkin street.
"As they neared the corner of Donkin street, one of the suspects informed her that she must leave her cell phone and money with them before entering the premises," said police spokesperson Captian Mali Govender.
She did as she was told only to discover that there were no police offices to speak of and that the so-called cops had disappeared.
Her Nokia cell phone and an undisclosed amount of cash had been taken.
