The cold and heavy rain on Saturday morning, 21 October, did not dampen the spirit of many people who made their way to the Joza Indoor Sports Centre.
People came from as far as the Western Cape to participate in the third edition of the annual aerobics marathon hosted by Makhanda’s Joza Aerobics and Fitness Club. Max’s Gym, AWB, Getfab, Community Fitness and Health Club, Siya M Club, all from Gqeberha, Stay Solid from Cape Town, LDM from East London and Rhodes University Health Suite from Makhanda participated in this event.
African Connection Women FC were invited as guests on this fun-filled day. Azabenathi Phandliwe of African Connection was happy to have taken part in this event. “It was fun and challenging, and it was nice to do something different from what we are used to,” she said.
Speaking to Grocott’s Mail Anam Kleyi of Joza Aerobics and Fitness Club did not hide her excitement. “This was a huge success, and the numbers were unbelievable considering the weather on the day. It was good to see young people enjoying themselves instead of doing drugs. I have also learned that anything is possible if you put your heart to it,” said Kleyi.
Local instructor and event organiser Vuyokazi Smile thanked everyone who participated, “I would like to thank everyone for participating and making this event a success and memorable. I hope that they have gained valuable knowledge that they will take home. I would also like to thank all the following businesses for their donations: Mafanandini’s Place, Cool Spot Tarvern and EC’s Fit and Go Towing.”
This great and successful event encouraged people of all ages and walks of life to stay fit and healthy, and people can’t wait for the 2024 edition.
