South African Music Awards (Sama) winner and Rhythm City actor Kelly Khumalo was in Grahamstown on Thursday 11 November to promote her new album 'Back to my roots'.
South African Music Awards (Sama) winner and Rhythm City actor Kelly Khumalo was in Grahamstown on Thursday 11 November to promote her new album 'Back to my roots'.
Khumalo said the album was doing extremely well given the fact that it came out a month ago. "So for me, I'm very excited," she said. "This has given me an opportunity to go back to the people I love the most, which is my fans, people who have given me so much love over the past 10 years. "Getting to see them again and interacting, singing the song together and having them post videos of themselves singing the song for me has been a humbling moment." The singer was impressed by how people have reacted to her lead single 'Asine'. She said everyone has been affected by ''Asine fever". "They buy the album and then they take a video of themselves singing and post it to me. I'm so humbled by that and by people making time to come and see me where I'm having an interview just to take a picture, to have a hug one-on-one, just to see my fans and embrace them and thank them in person," she said. Khumalo arrived in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday and did interviews with three radio stations and two print publications. She was on Umhlobo Wenene, Bay TV and Bay Radio, Kowie FM, Radio Grahamstown, and she co-hosted the breakfast show at Tru FM. Khumalo was in high spirits and was very excited about her fans' response to her new album. She made it clear that she would not entertain any questions about slain Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa. "We called a press conference to let everybody know that I'm not going to be talking about that. My focus is on the album, promoting the album which is what people know me about," she said. Khumalo said she did not get to where she is because of her private life. "I was not introduced to the industry through my private life, but I was introduced to the public through music, which is what I would like to continue doing and concentrating on," she said. Khumalo said 'Back to my roots' was one of the top selling albums at Musica and was number 56 on the top 200. People around the country have taken to the single 'Asine'. Khumalo also took the opportunity to wish her fans a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
