Their two-day momentum was created by strong batting performances from the senior players, Nicholas Embling, Gordon Everard, Andrew Mills, Benjamin Dovey and Zach Melvill.
This gave the experienced Steven Green the opportunity to attack with his turning left arm spinners. Green claimed a total of 17 wickets in the two ‘test matches’. Captain Andrew Mills lead from the front with a fine 113 not out versus St George’s College and Nicholas Embling followed that up with a fluent 134 versus St John’s College (Harare).
Christopher McCarthy and Frank Norval provided the pace and aggression, unsettling the Zimbabwean batsman, and giving St Andrew’s well-earned victories in their two–day matches.
The St George’s 20/20 tournament proved to be St Andrew’s weekend in the sun! They won all their pool games and booked their spot in the final versus St John’s College (Harare) on Sunday afternoon. It was a pressure environment in front of a healthy crowd watching from their sponsored tents creating a tense atmosphere.
