“Giving back to the community does not require everyone; it takes one’s courage to do that willingly to grow the young generation of this community”, said Yvette du Plessis, founder and manager of Little Lambs Development Centre (LLDC).
Parents and teachers alike came together to celebrate the little children who form part of the Little Lambs. The Christian education centre ensured the day was filled with fun activities, as a reminder that young minds develop not only through teaching but also through fun activities.
Despite having very little, the centre continues to contribute to the well-being of the community.
Harry Porthen, a parent who has been part of the Little Lambs family since 2021, says he joined the centre as he trusted the development and growth it showed.
Not only does the community contribute but the Assemblies of God church helps, said pastor Denver du Plessis.
The centre is also trusted and helped by the Assemblies of God Church where Denver du Plessis is a Pastor, he says, “If one of the hundred sheep get lost, leave the ninety-nine remaining and find the rest. In this community a child doesn’t grow alone, it takes a community to grow a child.”
A parent who requested not to be named said, “Regardless of the financial status affecting the community, what matters is the smile on our children’s faces, as parents it is our role to help the coordinators of Little Lambs contribute to the growth of our young ones”.
Seeing the comfort of the kids on the fun day shows how the centre cares for the kid’s welfare. “I love my teachers and my friends” said Micayln one of the kids from the Little Lambs, this aligned with earlier sentiments that the coordinators are not just their teachers but parents too.
How you can helpÂ
The Centre that was founded in 2001 calls for intervention by non-governmental organisations to enhance their community engagement through assisting with sustainability.
Grocott’s Mail sat down with Yvette du Plessis who voiced that she will continue to work tirelessly to acheive her goal, however, assistance form stakeholders could help, “The issues we have are related to less access to resources and finances, however with the community contributing with the little they have, we still continue with our vision”, she said.
du Plessis mentioned that throughout the past years, Checker’s intervention helped as a sponsor in terms of contribution however looking forward to a more advanced change. “We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the development of little lambs and grateful to the parents who contributed to making the ‘Little Lambs Fun Day’ a special day to our kids. I want to spread the word in order to be heard and continue with the reforms of my community, I founded this centre and I will decide when to stop it for as long as I am willing to grow my community nothing else will block my way regardless of the crisis within” she said.
