Boxing lovers packed the Hlalani Community Hall last Saturday to witness the best of amateur boxing. Teams came from all over the province to take part in the Mfuzo Boxing Camp’s 29th anniversary celebrations tournament.
There were so many exciting and electrifying bouts that had the big crowd on their feet as boxers went all out to make sure they didn’t disappoint.
Mfuzo Boxing Camp’s public relations officer, Mfuzo Dyirha, was pleased. “We had a very successful event and we are happy with all the support we got. Having clubs coming from very far shows how successful this event was.”
Makhanda’s hopes were on the shoulders of Golden Gloves, Masakheke, Rhodes University, Thembalethu, Vukani boxing clubs as well as hosts Mfuzo Boxing Camp.
The visitors’ invasion was led by Eyethu and Hotspurs from Gqeberha, Khulani BC from Mthatha, Kenton Boxing Club from Kenton, Thubalethu Boxing Club from Kariega and Mali Boxing Club from Bathurst.
Dyirha went on to thank all the participants. “I would like to thank everyone who made this tournament a success and hope to see everyone in next year’s edition. The standard of boxing was very high and thanks to the boxers, coaches and officials.” He made special mention of sponsors and parents who allowed the young boxers to participate in the sport.
Dyirha extended gratitude to the Makhanda boxing fans who turned up in large numbers to support the event.
