In a thrilling and closely contested match, Old Collegians (OC) 1st XV edged out Swallows 1st XV with
a hard-fought 25-20 win at the Lavender Valley Sports Ground on Saturday. This victory propelled OC
to the top of the Adams Cup log table, dethroning Middelburg Eagles.
The win also earned OC bragging rights for the season, having beaten the 2023 Sedru champions,
Swallows, twice in the league. Swallows dropped to fourth position on the log.
The match was played in a spirited and competitive atmosphere, with a large crowd witnessing some
exceptional rugby from both teams. Swallows’ forwards dominated the scrums, but failed to
capitalize on penalty scrums. OC’s fitness and high-tempo game, utilizing their speedy backs, put
    Swallows under pressure.
Swallows were unfortunate not to clinch the win, missing several scoring opportunities in the second
half. OC, however, seized their chances and scored crucial points. The game concluded with OC
    securing a narrow 25-20 victory.
    Point scorers:
    OC:
    – Tries: Aviwe Dingaan, Siyamthanda Wambi, Siyabonga Mahapi
    – Conversions: Ashley Ngapi (x2)
    – Penalties: Nqapi (x2)
    Swallows:
    – Tries: Ethan September, Jody Duiker, Mitchell Willemse
    – Conversion: Jason Henson
    – Drop: Bradley Christian
Man of the Match: Ethan Slang September (Swallows)
Ethan September was instrumental for Swallows, showcasing his aggression and brute force with the
ball and on defence. His impressive try and relentless runs made him a standout player.

Rhodes secures thrilling 20-19 win over Newtown Wolves
In an intense and closely contested Epru Adams Cup match, Rhodes University edged out Newtown
Wolves with a hard-fought 20-19 victory at the Rhodes University Great Field on Saturday. This win
propelled Rhodes to 9th position on the log, while Wolves remained in 7th.
Despite coming off an intense USSA Rugby Week and losing key players to injury, Rhodes showed
remarkable determination and fighting spirit. Their speedy backline players impressed throughout,
providing sparks and excitement. Wolves, however, refused to back down, maintaining possession
and threatening to upset the home side.
Both teams displayed attractive rugby, playing with spirit and competitiveness. In the end, Rhodes
held their composure and secured a narrow 20-19 win. This match showcased the teams’ hunger for victory and their willingness to fight until the very end. Credit goes to both teams for their impressive performance and sportsmanship.
