The Makana LFA first division league campaign kicks off this weekend. This league was last played almost a year ago, and teams have not kicked the ball since. This weekend’s opening fixtures will see some mouth watering clashes.

On Saturday, Mayfield will open the new season against Rising Stars, followed by Cameroon and Leister’s clash, while the Eagles are set to close the day against Riebeek East Academy. On Sunday, Joza Stars will lock horns with XI Attackers Academy while Vukani Anchors will take on Santos FC in what promises to be a cracker judging by the two teams’ form last season.

According to Makana LFA secretary, Akhona Heshu, it is all systems go. “We are expecting the games to kick off this weekend as most of the first division clubs have completed the registration process. We are ready as the association and our referees department is also ready.

“We will be monitoring this weekend’s games and all the teams will be required to produce players cards before each game as we are trying to avoid what happened in last season’s premier league.”

Heshu also confirmed that the LFA will try and eradicate some of the things that would chase potential sponsors away.
