Dear Editor

On 26 October, an amazing bunch of 432 runners /walkers /strollers participated. Following the established tradition, newly elected prefects (management committees) of local schools dressed up and sizzled with joyful spirit. Apart from cash prizes for the fast runners, almost everybody received something! The first three men were Sisa Camagu, Lubabalo Bokuva and Ceejay Porthen, and the first three ladies were Lauren Ranger, Terri-Lynn Penney and Cecile van Schalkwyk.

At a function after the event in Fanie Venter Klubkamer R12 000 was presented to Este Coetzee, vice-Chair of GADWMA , by the chairperson of the Rapportryers, Strauss de Jager.

We thank our sponsors /supporters who rallied to make this a great event for all and helped raise the funds for GADWMA (representing Settlers Close and Oakhaven):

Albany and Bathurst Engineering, Albany Business Machine, Besties, Brandt & Stoltz, Build It, Buco, Country Fresh, Crossfit, Cum Boeke, De Klerk and De Villiers Brokers,

Dr Gainsford and Partners, Dr Theo du Toit, Dupliprint, EC Fresh, EC Pet and Pool, Ella V Creations, EP Mufflers/ Best Drive, Extreme Embroidery, GBS, Gino’s, Goodhope Cycles, Grahamstown Vet Clinic, Grocott’s Mail, Guardmed, Hyundai, Jacques Artisan Bakery, Johan Carinus Kunsskool, Jo’s Cookies Mitford Park, Kelston Isuzu, Mr Dog, Nettletons, Nicks Nest, Noom, Pick n Pay, Panarottis, Parkhill Motors, Red Cafe, Rat & Parrot, Rayner Agencies, Sean McCallum Brokers, Siyakubonga Funeral Services, Smhart Security, Sweet and Salty, Suzi Q, Spur, The Mustard Seed, The Moths, Ten Cross Street, The Barista, Videotronic, Voodoo, We Wash IT.

A warm “Thank you!” also to the local Traffic Department for their faithful service, Guardmed for their presence and help, and Smhart Security for posting vehicles at strategic positions on the route. Well-loved local media veteran, Sid Penny, once again entertained the crowd with his lively remarks for a good two hours. And another local legend, Basil Mills, started the event with a bang (quite safe!) from his antique musket.

And of course all the participants, and the schools they  represented. Hope to see you all again next year on Thursday 24 October 2024!

Regards
Strauss de Jager (for Rapportryers Grahamstad, and Hoërskool PJ Olivier)
